Parent Connection
Have you reached out to the parents and guardians of your students? Was it to celebrate their child? You may be thinking that there is no way you have time for that and it's already March, most of the school year is gone. You're long past the honeymoon phase, and in the thick of it. As a teacher, you may be starting to feel the crunch of timelines and curriculum that you want or need to get through.
Take a moment, step back, take a deep breath... take multiple deep breaths. Need more to relax? Stretch your fingers out and tense your hands, make a fist, repeat, and do the same with your feet. Hopefully all of these things help release some tension for you.
Now take a moment to think of all of the children you impact each and every day. Think about the successes you have witnessed, the growth you have seen, the ah-ha moments, the kindness expressed from one student to another, the moments that make your heart happy.
Now call, text, write an email, or send a postcard home to the families of the students that were part of those moments. These moments not only remind you about how this is all worth it, but think of the joy that will bring to a family and to that student. I recently saw a parent post on facebook, a picture of the postcard that was sent home from a team of teachers at their child's school, and they were ecstatic. Now it's your turn to pass that on! Challenge others to do the same!
