Student Reflection
It's easy to go into the beginning of the year with lofty goals as a teacher, to want to implement something from each workshop or day or professional development you attended over the summer, or wanting to do 55 of the million things you pinned on pinterest. Then we get into the thick of it, and we forget everything we wanted to do and fall back into what is easiest, or what we've always done. Reflecting on my teaching from last year as I reviewed student files, tests, surveys and more, I realized that after the second unit I rarely incorporated self-assessment and descriptive feedback. Realizing this, reminded me of an awesome weekly learning log reflection combination that one of my colleagues does with her students through google classroom. This learning log reflection not only served as a formative assessment for the teacher on the content from the week and what the student understood, but also allowed the student to reflect on their learning, misunderstandings and more. Giving students this time weekly, or adding reflection questions on to the end of a quiz, or summative assessment, is time not wasted! In fact, you usually learn more than you could hope for! Keep it simple! See the example below that I stole from a colleague. Want some other ideas? Search "Student Self Assessment" on google, it's a bit crazy everything that is out there!
